Alex Curtis for Deputy of St Clement

Energy, Innovation, Community and Common Sense

My Vision for Jersey

Living in England for a period made me appreciate just how much Jersey has to offer. I wanted to be part of this community and make it my permanent home. I feel fortunate to have had interesting and rewarding careers, and I am determined to see more islanders have the same opportunities.

I want to see a Jersey where people can afford to live in a home that gives them a good quality of life — where they have genuine choices about work, and where the island’s sense of community and its natural environment are protected, not eroded.

My vision for Jersey preserves the best of what we have:

  • Our beaches, fields, and open spaces — kept genuinely open
  • A built environment at a human scale, not dominated by development
  • An economy that is diverse, resilient, and creates real opportunities for islanders
  • A government that is open, honest and lives within its means.
  • An assembly that trusts islanders to make decisions for themselves.
  • A society that works together to enable all islanders a good quality of life.

It can be hard to plan your life if you are carrying large debts — and the same applies to an island. I want to see Jersey manage its finances responsibly, without building up costs for the next generation to pay, and without becoming dependent on an ever-growing population to fund public services.

That means making deliberate choices, being honest about trade-offs, and having a clear sense of what kind of island we want to be in twenty years’ time.

Policy Ideas

These are specific ideas and policy positions I want to explore and champion. Jersey needs fresh thinking, and I believe in being clear about what I would advocate for in the States Assembly.

Economy

We must support a vibrant, diverse private sector, for employees and business owners alike. Government should enable, not overbear.

Environment, Housing & Planning

The next Island Plan is our chance to deliver development more sustainably.

Education & Health

Significant investment has been made over the past four years. Now it's time to ensure this funding is spent wisely so that budgets can be sustained into the future.

Government & Public Service

We must deliver public services with financial discipline. We need research-based solutions that serve islanders whilst giving public-sector employees a positive working environment.

Population & Community

Jersey's population should stay within our island's means. Anyone who lives here should feel included and benefit from Jersey's natural beauty and safety. We must protect personal freedoms against over-regulation.

What I Will Do as Your Deputy

I believe the role of Deputy is more than a route to a seat in the States Assembly. A Deputy should actively support parishioners, represent their interests, and be genuinely useful - not just show up to debates.

As your Deputy, I will:

  • Represent your views: Bringing the concerns and experiences of St. Clement residents into the Assembly and representing a balanced set of perspectives.
  • Be approachable and accessible: Available to parishioners who need help navigating government, or any issue where a Deputy can make a difference
  • Protect parish interests Pushing back when development, policy, or spending decisions would harm St. Clement disproportionately
  • Communicate clearly Continue to host and attend ‘Meet the Deputies and Connetable’ meetings. Share updates online and be approachable to parishioners.

I am committed to being honest when I don’t know the answer to something, and to saying clearly when I disagree with a direction, even when that is uncomfortable.

Jersey deserves Deputies who are straightforward about where they stand.

Who am I

Alex Curtis

I was born in Jersey and grew up in St. Clement, between Pontac and Le Bourg.

After studying in the UK, I moved to Reading to work in technology at Microsoft, where I had the opportunity to travel and contribute to genuinely innovative projects around the world. After six years in the UK, I returned to Jersey in 2019.

I’ve always had a deep love for the island and spent my early years around the east of the island, cycling and exploring the coast. My interest in becoming a decision-maker and entering politics stems from a desire to preserve what’s best about the island as I’ve always known it, and secure it long in to the future.

I’m hardworking, with a care for my community and the wider world around me. This interest and care shapes my approach to life and work.

I remain passionate about technology and, in my spare time, have developed a range of services, including digitalStates.je.

I live with my partner, Thea, who now runs our distillery. When I’m not working, we enjoy cycling, playing pétanque, and spending time outdoors together. I also enjoy welding & motorbikes.
